The 26th Amendment

How many 18 year old's vote today?

Why was it passed?

approximately 50% of eligible young

people which is about 24 million youth in

the age range of 18-29, voted in

the 2016 general election.

Before the 26th Amendment, the voting age was 21 years old. Around the time of the Vietnam War, 18 year old men began to demand the right to vote saying that they could be forced to serve in the military, but could not vote. This made many young men angry.

What is the 26th Amendment?

The 26th Amendment is the right for an eighteen year old teenager to vote in any election, whether it be it state, local or federal.

The Amendment was signed in 1970 to help accept 18 year old voters in every election. Then the Amendment was ratified on July 1, 1971 and the minimum age was 18.
