The LiPS program is a series of overlapping steps used to develop phonemic awareness and its application in reading, spelling, and speech.
LiPS can be used as a prevention, intervention or remediation.
-Teaches students to discover and label the oral-motor movements of phonemes. Students then are able to verify the identity, number and sequence of sounds in words. Once established, phonemic awareness is then applied to reading, spelling, and speech.
-Weak/poor phonemic awareness skills
Examples:
-Recognizing sameness/difference of phonemes
-Discriminating the identity, number, and order of sounds within words
-Blending sounds
-Word attack
-Spelling
-Syllabication
