Applying to College
Step 1: Research
1. Pick your schools
What schools are you interested in applying to?
2. Application requirements:
Common application,
recommendation letters,
counselor form,
test scores?
Step 2: Apply
1. Work on
completing application
- use Naviance to track applications.

Draft essays and revise
. Have a trusted person review the essay.

Request teacher recommendations
These recommendations should be from teachers, coaches, or adults who know you in a classroom or coaching setting.
Step 3: Forms from Milford
1. Counselor Form
Sometimes required by schools

2. Student Profile, & Parent Brag Sheets
If you plan to use your counselor or principal as a recommender- pick up these forms in the office

3. Transcript Request Form
Must have 1 on file to send your transcript to your college choices. You fill out this form AFTER you have completed your college application.

Step 4: Check Your Status
After you have submitted your application, requested your teacher recommendations, and submitted your transcript release form...

Follow up with your school after 10 days to make sure all materials have arrived to the admissions office.
Tips & Tricks
1. Use the same email for all applications and college related events.

2. Don't be afraid to call the admissions office.-- If you aren't sure if they have your materials, give them a call!

3. Start writing your essays early. Common App releases the questions over the summer. We will email them to you as soon as they are available.
* Most schools will require you to send the scores directly from ACT or CollegeBoard.
