The Bank Street Summer Camp fosters emotional, physical and ethical growth within campers by using educational professionals to help them develop their own personalities and individual voices through love of play, creativity and collaboration.
We help campers develop noncognitive learning skills such as team building, problem solving, self-confidence, persistence, curiosity, reliance, self-control, time management, rethinking, social skills, and feeling comfortable to try new things and make mistakes.
It is factors like these that make the Bank Street Summer Camp nationally recognized for combating summer learning loss.

For many families, Bank Street Camp is their opportunity to have a Bank Street experience. Some families even travel to NYC from other parts of the country/world to attend.

Last year there were roughly 107 trips in the SFC.
Last summer there were 395 bus trips in 8 weeks, not including 73 park and playground trips.
This year we are fortunate to have a collaboration with both the York St. John University in England and the Bahcesehir University in Turkey, where each school will be sending volunteer college and graduate students studying education to assist in a number of groups.

We also have private lessons in Drama, Guitar, Piano, Spanish, and Voice.
Bus service includes pick up and drop off from the Upper West Side, the Upper East Side, Inwood, Riverdale and Brooklyn

"Because of the Bank Street Summer Camp, I have had the opportunity to continue to learn from other teachers."
-Anne Tobias
"Camp has meant opportunity: opportunity to refine and develop a set of life skills and the opportunity to incorporate them into a career working in early childhood education."
-Alex Kavo, SFC '04
"Because of Bank Street Summer Camp I became a grad student and a teacher."
-Jenel Frazier SFC '01
"Working at Bank Street Summer Camp helped me realize that one of my true passions in life is working with children and young adolescents in a sports training and coaching capacity."
-Brian Sackey, SFC '98
"To me, the Bank Street Summer Camp means finding ways to make all children feel safe and supported. I recently went into a school for children classroom and was delighted to see the class making balloon squishies for everyone (a camp favorite). This demonstrates the transparency from camp to school strategies and tools used to support children's needs in any environment,"
-Nancy Ireland
"Bank Street Summer Camp provided me with the opportunity to collaborate with phenomenal educators as well as learn from and teach children. A native of Maryland, Bank Street Summer Camp introduced me to both the greater New York City area and the unique, inclusive community that our camp embodies. Everyday is filled with new adventures and inspiration. Like the campers, the memories made at camp will forever hold a place in my heart."
-Nykeba Corinaldi
“For me, the most important thing about camp is that it reinforces the social learning that the students do throughout the year. Camp teaches students new skills and helps them grow both socially and emotionally, by giving them a stimulating day to day group dynamic. Lastly, Camp is fun. A student who's having fun is a happy student and that's all teachers want."
-Chris Mera, SFC '01
"Bank Street Summer Camp allows me to nurture the healthy competitive spirit of children in a safe environment where each individual is given a chance to participate and grow."
-Rahsaan Wareham, SFC '93
All campers swim at least twice a week at our outdoor pool in Riverdale, where swim is both instructional and free swim.
Lower Campers also swim once a week at Lake Welch in Harriman State park, where it is only free swim.
Counselors and Aquatics Staff are always in the water with the kids, helping them with skill development and water safety.
Working with Campers
All Supervisory, Head and Aquatic Staff are trained in CPR and RTE.
Last Year
62 staff members were trained in First Aid and CPR
17 were trained in Lifeguarding
13/17 were WSIs (Water Safety Instructors)
Upon registering online, parents answer 101 questions including significant life events, family developments, medical and/or allergy needs, dismissal information, bedtime and behavioral information.
This digital information helps us prepare for the development of each camper. We are one of the few camps in the American Camp Assosciation who employs a Camper Support Coordinator before and during the summer.
Bi-weekly lectures include:
The Leadership Development Program is for campers entering 9th and 10th Grade, who are interested in working with children in an educational capacity. Participants learn and participate in observation & recording, project planning, and community service.
At the end of the course they receive an evaluation and certificate of completion.
This year they have the opportunity to apply for a job with the Bank Street Camp. 20 of the 25 participants, many of whom graduated from the SFC last year or the year before, have already applied by sending letters of intent, resumes, cover letters, setting up an interview, confirming the interview and sending thank you notes. They are 14 to 16 years old.
We will no longer be hiring high school students unless they have completed this program.
Staff Training
We are proud to be a resource for educators both at Bank Street and beyond. We have guided many young men and woman to the field of education, specifically to the Bank Street Graduate School.
All staff members participate in Staff Development. Training includes:
