Before the British

Before the arrival of the British most of the Indian population lived in villages and was a well-trained agricultural economy. The farmers didn’t live on their land but went to the fields daily to work the land and provide food for their villages and themselves

During the British Raj the Indians were forced to sing the national anthem of England, The Indians were forced to work in the fields yet weren't allowed to keep much for themselves. The British took the cotton from India, made it their own and sold it for profit.

They didn't even make enough to keep them alive, let alone make any profit. The British taxed the Indian people so much it was hard for them to survive, the reason for high taxes would be the money had to be spent on keeping the British army alive and healthy so they would fight and capture other lands.

After the British came to India, the British found that the traditional economy (that could lead to success) didn’t work out because of the poor technology so they introduced new ways to communicate better; building roads and rail networks, set up factories and communication systems to trade with others.
