Early American Timeline

1607-1622

1607

Jamestown is the first permanent English settlement in the New World.

Founded by the London Company in1607.

John Smith saved Jamestown from

collapsing by trading Indian corn.

1613

When the Dutch settled in New York they built a trading post.

They orginally named it New Netherland.

When the English invaded it they named it New York after the Duke of York.

The Dutch colonise New Jersey first.

In 1665 the British kicked the Dutch out.

It became a royal colony in 1702 which means it was controlled by the English king.

In 1614 the first settlers in Connecticut were the Dutch.

Settlement hadn't occurred until 1633 when they made a fort called New Hope.

An Englishman Thomas Hooker then settled there founded the town of Hartford.

1620

The colony of Massachusetts was founded when Pilgrims from England.

When the Pilgrims got there they made Plymouth Colony.

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth.

1622

In 1622 New Hampshire was founded by Captain John Mason.

Its purpose was to be a fishing colony.

It was origanally part of Massachusetts until the English king gave them a charter to separate.
