Our Opinion

Developmental Areas

We believe that he is correct, if a child is rewarded positively for their good behavior then it is more common that they will continue to behave well in order to keep recieving the reward, but if they get negative consequences the child will stop this behavior get praise and different results that are better than the other consequence.

BF Skinner created this theiry based on the behavioral development of a child. Skinner's theory also helped get a better understanding of the social and emotional development of a child, the behavioral development contributes to the way a person feels about him/herself or moral values . The development can either effect the growth of a child either negatively or positively depending on the operant conditioning that they grew up with.

Vocabulary

Operant Conditoning : a lesson learned based on the good or bad results of an action

Behavior Modification : to change or shape the way one behaves

Reinforce : to make changes in discipline according to the behavior of an organism

Neutral Response : response from the environment that doesn't increase or decrease the probability of an action

Postive Response : response from the envrionment that increases the probability of an action to occur again

Negative Response : response from the environment that discourages or weakens the behavior of an action to occcur again

Skinner Theory

  • The Skinner Theory was about Behavioral Development
  • The theory stated that any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur, any behavior that isn't reinforced is less likely to occur
  • There are 3 types of responses:
  • Nuetral Reinforcement - reaction that neither increases or decreases repeated behavior
  • Positive Reinforcement- reaction that increases the likelyhood of the occur repeatedly
  • Negative Reinforcement- reaction that decreases behavior to become familiar, weakens the behavior

  • This theory was tested on rats trying to get food from a dispenser using the lever to either reward or punish the rat.
