The grand canal was built in 468 BC, while renovations began in 770 BC-476 BC. IS the biggest artificial river in the world and also a famous tourist destination. The oldest parts of the canal date back to the 5th century BC, but the various sections were first connected during the Sui Dynasty (581–618 AD). The Yuan and Ming dynasties significantly rebuilt the canal and altered its route to supply their capital Beijing. The total length of the Grand Canal is 1,104 mi. Disregarding temporary periods of desolation and destruction, the Grand Canal furthered a growing economic market in China's urban centers since the Sui period. It has allowed faster trading and has improved China's economy. The southern portion remains in heavy use to this day. The grand canal while still used today doesn’t have as much as a purpose as it did back in ancient china. Today it is used to cruise tourists around on boats. Although many people still use it like they did back in the old days. Some people use it to get from place to place easily. Some still use it for trade and that was its main purpose. Many people have forgot that the grand canals main purpose was for transportation and trade.
The railway is the primary way of long distance transportation. The first effort of the railway was in 1864 a British merchant built a 600-meter long narrow track outside of Beijing to make a show for the imperial court. The imperial court thought it was somewhat strange so they dismantled it. The first railway to actually operate in China opened in Shanghai in 1876. The railway was called the Woosung Road. It was built by a British trading firm. Construction took place without approval from the Qing government, which had paid 285,000 taels of silver for the railroad and had it dismantled in 1877. The railway industry rapidly began to develop during 1895-1911. They found that railways were important after their defeat in the war when the government soon realized the potential in these railways. The imperial capital, Beijing, was designed as the center of the Chinese railway network. Several lines radiated out from Beijing. The importance of railways today is much more then back in ancient China. As of 2014 China had the second longest railway network in the world and the longest high-speed rail network. Prior to 1950, there were only 21,800 km (13,546 mi) of railway lines. The extensive rail network includes the longest and busiest network in the world with 19,000 km (11,806 mi) of high-speed lines.

The forbidden city was constructed from 1406-1420 the complex consists of 980 buildings. It is in Beijing and was once an imperial palace for 24 emperors during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was forbidden to enter without special permission of the emperor. While this use to be a imperial palace a very special place for those dynasties is now a museum to honor those dynasties. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts. The southern section, or the Outer Court was where the emperor exercised his supreme power over the nation. The northern section, or the Inner Court was where he lived with his royal family. Until 1924 when the last emperor of China was driven from the Inner Court, fourteen emperors of the Ming dynasty and ten emperors of the Qing dynasty had reigned here. Having been the imperial palace for some five centuries, Forbidden City houses numerous rare treasures and curiosities. Listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987 the Palace Museum is now one of the most popular tourist attractions world-wide. So many of the most important things in ancient China have now become tourist attractions in remembrance to these important structures and modes of transportation.
The three gorges dam is a hydroelectric gravity dam that spans the Yangtze river. The three gorges dam began construction in 1994 and opening day was 2003. The dam cost about 180 billion. Its main purpose to produce energy and electricity to China. I have a question is it worth making all this energy for the higher class people who can afford it to dislocate some of the lower class people who live by the edge of the river. This destroys lifestyles and homes so, is it even worth it? The Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest hydropower project and most notorious dam. The massive project sets records for number of people displaced (more than 1.2 million), number of cities and towns flooded (13 cities, 140 towns, 1,350 villages), and length of reservoir (more than 600 kilometers). The main benefits from the dam are flood control, power generation, navigation and tourism. I still think that these people who are being dislocated are being treated unfairly. In ancient China many of the people living by the Yangtze are there based off of the passing down of tradition around the Yangtze weather that is location or something else that makes them want to stay.
The great wall was built to protect the Qin Dynasty in 771-476 BC. Today it is not used for protection but is a main tourist attraction. The great wall is a great tourist destination that could bring in new religions and people to China. This was adopted by many new dynasties as well. This is a big deal in China because these new people can bring new ideas for infrastructure and economy and much more. Over 10 million people visit The Great Wall every year. You could say that China started it all for protection with walls due to this huge wall. It was spread over China by other dynasties. The last part of the wall was made by the Ming Dynasty. All the people that the wall brings in can spread their culture and improve the industry of China. The Great Wall back then has really changed up to this current time. Back then it was used to protect dynasties and serve as a symbol for China whereas to now it is a tourist attraction that has no great meaning other than to attract people from all over to view this huge wall. The ways of the world have changed this wall to be of something of great importance to something that is barely important at all.
