The government was ruled by Kings and queens. this was not a total democracy though. The kings were similar to our present day president. This government is a monarchy. The king did not make laws but he did enforce them the Priests are the ones who made the laws. The king was also elected by the nobles.. Overall the Kush Government was one of the most advanced types of its kind, that is being it was the first Empire. The people felt more connected to the government. They could have a queen as a ruler instead of a king, only if the queen was elected. Some people say that the women had more power than the men in this government. This was one of the only empires that would allow women to rule. The Kush people took over Egypt and the Kush government held strong in Egypt for 100 years.
The Kush Empire was mainly based of the resource of iron. Their weapons and almost all of their products were made of the production of iron. The Kush Empire also built pyramids that were smaller and shaped differently than Egyptian pyramids. Many pyramids and temples still stand so I can infer that the architecture was very good. A lot of the advancements in Egypt and the interaction with the outside world around the Mediterranean with the Greeks and Romans philosophers and teachers were done in the era that the Kushites controlled Egypt.
The Kingdom of Kush as an ancient African kingdom situated on the confluences of the Blue Nile, White Nile and River Atbara in what is now the Republic of Sudan. Established after the Bronze Age collapse and the disintegration of the New Kingdom of Egypt, it was centered at Napata in its early phase
The civilization of Kush was not merely derivative from Egypt but represented an indigenous culture which also incorporated elements borrowed from deeper into the South of the African continent. While knowledge of Kush begins from contact with Egypt, the culture predates this and can be traced archeologically back as far as 3,000 B.C.E. and may actually have initially stimulated Egyptian culture, not vice versa. Legend has it that the Kush were the oldest race on earth and Nubia is regarded by some as the location of the Garden of Eden. The Kush developed their own language, and eventually their own cursive script Their wealth was from mining. Kush kings were often succeeded by their Queens. Kings were chosen or elected by members of the nobility, although from the royal family. The king was not law maker, but upheld customary law that was interpreted by the priests. Shillington suggests that there was a greater degree of consent between ruler and the ruled than ‘ever existed in Ancient Egypt
A succession of female rulers represents an ‘innovation not seen in any other major civilization’ differing from Egypt, where while a few women exercised power this was an exception not a norm.Shillington says that the mother of the King also exercised a significant role, which ‘may have helped maintain stability from one reign to the next. While the independent Kush kings retained their Egyptian titles, the fact that they did not completely adopt the Egyptian style of governance suggests that an alternative tradition already existed within their culture, and that this was valued. One of the largest of the pyramids built for the rulers of Kush was for a woman, Queen Shanakdakheto, and had elaborate carvings.
In the eleventh century. internal disputes in Egypt caused colonial rule to collapse and an independent kingdom arose based at Napata in Nubia. This kingdom was ruled by locals who overthrew the colonial regime. The Egyptians ruled Kush, or Nubia, through a viceroy who had two deputies. While Egyptian culture dominated at the vice-regal court and close to the center of the Egyptian bureaucracy, away from the center Kush culture thrived. Arts and crafts included pottery and jewelry and there was probably a large number of artisans and generally the Nubian economy was not dependent on agriculture but benefited from being on the trade routes into the African south. To protect this trade, forts were built at strategic points. From the third century the artists and craftsmen created a highly original and independent artistic tradition
The Kingdom of Kush lasted for over 1400 years. It was first established around 1070 BCE when it gained its independence from Egypt. It quickly became a major power in Northeast Africa. In 727 BCE, Kush took control of Egypt and ruled until the Assyrians arrived. The empire began to weaken after Rome conquered Egypt and eventually collapsed sometime in the 300s CE.
Throughout history, Kush was the closest trade partner to Egypt. Egyptian relieves dating to the Old Kingdom show Kushites presenting Egyptian pharaohs with gold, ivory, ebony, ostrich feathers, doam , and exotic products, and animals like giraffes.
