Global Contributions

Improvements on Naval Navigation

Facilitated the Exchange of Cultures through the Eastern Hemisphere

Facilitated Trade Throughout the Entire Eastern Hemisphere

For example:

India: Chinese sailors clapped hands to perform a deal

Sri Lanka: Offered gold and silver Buddhist ceremonial vessels and silk to local temples

He brought Chinese culture through his travels.

Zheng He first conducted an exhaustive study of existing nautical charts, celestial navigation, eastern and western almanacs, astronomy and geography, marine sciences, piloting, and shipbuilding and repair.

This information would spread around the world.

Zheng He once again made China a dominant force in international trade which brought several luxury goods to different countries including pearls and precious stones, coral, ivory and dyestuff, giraffe, lion, ostrich and leopard from Ryukyu Islands, the Philippine Islands and Maluku Sea to the Mozambican Channel and the costal areas of South Africa

Instead of destroying the native population and rulers with the most superior fleet of the time, Zheng He acted as an envoy that respected different cultures and helped exchange them throughout the world.

1 Contribution to Geographic Region

Promote Succession of a Chinese Emperor

  • Help the Ming dynasty to over throw the Yuan dynasty
  • Did this by being a strategic player (personal bodyguard) for the Prince of Yan and served him in his rise to imperial power

Importance:

The demonstration of his loyalty and protection to the Prince of Yan helped expand the efforts of a traditional Chinese ruler to reclaim the throne.

Zheng He played key roles in many military campaigns and battles.

Zheng He played a role of importance in the era before the Europeans dominated the world. Instead of self-serving China and viewing the world as his for the taking, Zheng He respected the locals and governing entities of each country. He commanded power to ursurp the weaker naval forces of the entire Hemisphere, yet he instead facilitated trade and spread of culture/ ideas. These ideas and innovations in naval technology were unitized by Europeans which eventually led them to begin their own conquests. However the nature of the Europeans did not similarly match the Chinese nature to strike fear and respect from the locals. Instead Europeans filled the power vacuum left in Zheng He's demise with an era of usurpation, destruction, disease, and slavery.
