What was the Peruvian War of Independence?

Why did the Peruvians want independence?

It was a sequence of small battles that culminated when military leader Jose de San Martin declared independence for Peru in 1821. It led to the end of the Spanish rule after the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824.

The Spanish officials treated the Peruvians badly from the start of their reign in 1532. This unfair treatment led to unrest since the Peruvians were suffering under Spanish control.

Who led the revolution?

Jose de San Martin who was from Argentina and Simon Bolivar from Venezuela were both highly influential in helping Peru gain their independence from Spain.

When and where did the war initiate?

The war was fought in Peru, beginning in 1811 and coming to a close in 1824.

How did the Peruvians gain independence?

Two of the most influential battles during the Peruvian War of Independence were the Battle of Junín and the Battle of Ayacucho. The Battle of Junín led to 500 Spanish soldiers being killed or captured. 3000 soldiers just gave up fighting the Peruvians. The Battle of Ayacucho was the final battle in the Peruvian War of Independence. It led to the end of the Spanish rule.
