How Copyright Applies

-While Copyright does apply to the body of a work, it cannot apply to the title.

-The script can be copyrighted the general idea cannot

-It only applies to the work you are submitting, if you plan to write a sequel you must register seperately

-Permission does apply

All artists are concerned when they find out that their art has been reproduced or shown without their permission.

  • The penalties can include:
  • You can be sued and taken to court for infringement.
  • Fined
  • You will be asked to take down the picture or the work of the artist.

  • Infringer pays the actual dollar amount of damages and profits.
  • The law provides a range from $200 to $150,000 for each work infringed.
  • Infringer pays for all attorneys fees and court costs.
  • The Court can issue an injunction to stop the infringing acts.
  • The Court can impound the illegal works.
  • The infringer can go to jail.

Normally if you show movies to a few friends you are not infringing, but if you charge anything, and give nothing to the owners, you are infringing

Downloading the movie and selling it to someone else, without paying royalties is illegal
