Plot of White Fang

The Explorers

  • As the story begins we are fallowing the adventures of Henry and bill.
  • Henry and Bill are headed to a place called McGurry.
  • In the sleigh that they pull, a dead man is carried.
  • They start to realize that their dogs are disappearing.
  • In the night a wolf pack stalks them silently with the red she wolf at their lead.
  • Bill became frustrated with the taunting of the wolfs and decided to take action. He was killed in the process.

The birth of White Fang

  • The red She Wolf (Kiche), is sought after by a young wolf and old One eye of her wolf pack.
  • After months the two finally fought for Kiche as their mate.
  • One Eye won the fight and took Kiche as his mate.
  • The two made a den near a frozen stream.
  • Kiche gave birth to a small liter and only White Fang survived.
  • Gray Beaver took White Fang with him to trade in Fort Yukon.
  • White Fang picked on/killed the dogs that would come with the white men.
  • Beauty Smith became interested in white fang and tricked Gray Beaver into giving him to him.
  • Beauty Smith tortured White Fang and forced him to fight in illegal dog fights.
  • Weedon Scott saved White Fang and brought him to his cabin in the woods.
  • White Fang fell in love with this new god and grew to look forward to seeing him everyday.
  • Beauty Smith came looking for White Fang and was attacked by White Fang.

Judge Scott

The Gods of The Wild

Judge Scott is Weedon Scott's father. He does not trust White Fang completely until he saves his life from Jim Hall. He is the owner of the estate in California.

  • The young wolf White Fang came across a group of native americans.
  • Feeling threatened he called for his mother.
  • She turned out to be a past pet of the indians.
  • White Fang and his mother were taken to the Indian camp.
  • White Fang was given to an Indian named Gray Beaver.
  • White Fang was tormented by a pup older than him named Lip-lip
  • Kiche was taken by Three Eagles on a trip up the Mackenzie and left White Fang alone.

The Resolution

  • Scott attempts to go to California without White Fang but finally gives in and lets him come along.
  • Weedon brings White Fang to his estate in Sierra Vista.
  • White Fang has trouble adjusting but finally fits in.
  • White Fang even gets along with Weedons two small children.
  • The estate that White Fang was taken to belonged to Weedons father Judge Scott
  • One night an escaped convict, Jim Hall, sneaks into the estate with a plan to kill Judge Scott because he thought he had been railroaded to prison.
  • White Fang attacked Jim Hall and killed him but was shot three times and would have died if it wasn't for his strength mentally and physically.
  • After White Fang recovered he went outside and was surprised to find a litter of puppy's that belonged to him and the dog collie.

Collie

Collie is a sheepdog on Scott’s farm. She does not trust White Fang at first, but he works his way into her confidence, and they become mates. She ends up giving birth to four puppies that White Fang pleasurably meets.

Grey Beaver

Survival of the Fittest

  • Grey Beaver is White Fang's first master.
  • He took White Fang because he felt that since Kiche was his brothers dog he should be untitled to her pup.
  • He is harsh and shows no affection for his dog, but White Fang still displays loyalty toward him out of respect for his superiority over him.
  • Grey Beaver only sells White Fang once Beauty Smith makes him addicted to alcohol and he sells White Fang for a few bottles of beer.

Weedon Scott

  • Weedon Scott is White Fang's third master, who is the first to show affection toward him.
  • He saves White Fang from a bulldog that was turned against him in one of the fights that beauty smith had him in.
  • Forcefully buys White Fang from Beauty Smith.
  • He tries to tame White Fang, and slowly gains his trust, then finally his love.
  • He takes White Fang to live with him in California where his fathers astate is.

The process of natural selection means only the strongest ,Brightest and most adapted elements of the species will survive.This idea was shown through heavily in the character White Fang. At first he was the strongest cub and the only one that survived the famine. His strength and intelligence made him the most feared wolf in the indian camp.When White Fang defended Judge Scott against Jim Hall he took three bullets and miraculously survived White Fang was also able to adapt to any new circumstances. He learned to fight other dogs, he learned to obey new masters, to fight under the evil man Beauty and finally learned to be tamed by Weedon.

White Fang

  • White Fang is a very dynamic character, he goes through many changes through the coarse of the book.
  • Something that White Fang relies on through most of the story is his seance of trust.
  • White Fang has trouble moving on because he creates strong bonds with all the characters he interacts with.
  • He is powerful and uses his power all the time to express his social status.
  • White Fang has only feelings of respect and admiration for Gray Beaver.
  • The feelings he felt for his mother were dependability and passionate understanding.

Kiche

  • Kiche is White Fang's mother, who is known as the “she-wolf” at the beginning of the novel.
  • She is half wolf, half dog, and used to be Grey Beaver’s brother’s dog, but escaped during a famine.
  • When she returns to the Native Americans, she gets sent away from White Fang, and only sees him once more in the novel, where she chases him off to protect her new pups.
  • By this time she had forgotten White fang and he lost all passion for her.
  • Kiche is fierce and is willing to fight like White Fang.

Jim Hall

Lip-LIp

Jim Hall is a criminal who escapes from prison after Judge Scott unjustly sentences him. He attempts to murder Judge Scott, but is attacked and killed by White Fang.

  • Lip-lip is another pup who lives in the Native American village.
  • He brutally bullies White Fang throughout his puppyhood and turns all the other dogs against him.
  • This harsh treatment from Lip-Lip caused some of White Fangs Temper in the years that fallowed.
  • White Fang kills him after he flees into the woods during a famine.

Beauty Smith

  • Beauty Smith is White Fang's second master.
  • Despite his name he is an ugly man.
  • Beauty Smith would watch White Fang attack the dogs that would show up on the steam boats.
  • Gets Grey Beaver addicted to alcohol so that he can buy White Fang.
  • He trains White Fang to become a fighting dog.
  • He tries to steal White Fang back after Scott forcefully buys him, but White Fang brutally attacks him.
  • One Eye is White Fang's father. He is full wolf.
  • Killed his rivals to mate with Kiche.
  • He is killed by a lynx when he tries to rob its den for food during a famine.
  • This was when White Fang was still a puppy.
