Thesis Statement

Thesis Sentence Breakdown:

The topic and two facts (reasons) that back up what you say.

A thesis statement should not express an opinion or take a position. It should be simple and clear and one that can be supported with facts.

Gerbils are considered a great pet for small children because they are low maintenance and they are inexpensive.

A thesis statement should not announce what you will write about, or be a title for what you will write about.

In many marriages the spouses split household duties because both spouses have full time jobs and housework is no longer considered the woman's sole responsibility.
