Summary

This story takes place in the farmhouse of Mr. and Mrs. Wright's. In this home Mr. Wright was hung and people believe that it was Mrs. Wright. This thought came from Hale and his story of finding the body and how bizarre she was acting. After he had shared his story with the authorities, the group of men went and began searching through the house, and the two women began to collect things Mrs. Wright wanted. As they did this they found a broken birdcage, then a beautiful box with a dead bird. Once they found this the women began to speculate if this was the reason she would kill her husband. In the end only the County Attorney decides to stay and the rest leave but Mrs. Hale is secretly carrying the box with the dead bird.
