My peers have become a huge part of my life. Some of my friends are so close to me that I even consider them my family. They are always there for me when I am down or in need of help. They have been there to help motivate me and help me get out of my misery, sometimes. My friends have taught me how to trust. They have given me the ability to trust and have faith and not be let down. My friends have showed me loyalty and provided me with security and advice just like my family. They have kept secrets for me and stood up for me and gave me reasons to do the same. My friends have provided me with additional support besides my family. They keep me stable, safe, secure and sane. They are there when the problems I face cannot be discussed with my family for whatever reason it may be.
School has taught me many things to help prepare me for the future. School has added to the discipline that my family has taught me. School gave me reasons not to be late, or disrespectful. If I was, then I would get a punishment which no one likes getting. School has also taught me how to keep my composure when I am pushed to my breaking point. There are many times that I have thought about throwing a tantrum out of anger, but from my experience during my middle school times, I have learned that that is never the right thing to do. I have learned to think before I act which a slogan that schools have always enforced. School has taught me how to be organized, have self-regulation and how to be respectful and responsible.
Culture really has not influenced my life much. My family is not really religious. Our culture and religion gave me some superstitions that I follow and that is about it. Certain superstitions that I have been informed about are whistling after 7 pm, knocking on wood, and standing on one leg. My parents tell me that if you whistle after 7 pm that you will have snakes come out of your mouth. Knocking on wood seems to be a pretty popular superstition that many people follow when they jinx themselves or say something bad. My parents say that if you stand on one leg, you will end up losing that leg. Many of the superstitions seem to be scary and seem like a plan to scare kids but that is what I follow.
Family has been there for me since day one. The second I was born my family was there to take care of me. My family has been there to make sure I am healthy and safe. They have provided me with the building blocks to life. They gave me shelter so I would not be cold or in danger in the outside world. They provided me with food so I would not be starving or famished. They gave me all the help and moral support that I have ever needed to help me become the man I am today. My family has disciplined me and was there to put me back on track when I was a little off. They have been there to help me realize my mistakes and what I need to do to make sure they do not happen again. They have subliminally taught me how to treat people from a young age, but as I grew older, my peers influenced the way I treat people. Although my family still has the biggest impact on the way, I treat people. My family has taught me and inspired me to become a better person by their stories, actions, life lessons and experiences.
The media seems to have a really big impact on some people but I feel like it does not have such a great one on me. I admit that I try to copy and act like some of the people on TV. I copy some of the lines that reality star, Pauly D, from Jersey Shore utters. He has a big influence on me because the way he acts, he seems really outgoing and loud and that is similar to how I act. Therefore, I try to act somewhat like him by copying some phrases that he says. Kevin Hart is a comedian that has a big influence on me. He is a really funny comedian that is really loud, screams a lot, swears and has funny stories which once again reminds me of myself. I end up saying punch lines from his stand up comedy acts. Therefore, I can say that the media does influence my life and how I act, but I will always know right from wrong and will not follow people on TV who do wrong things.
Extracurricular activities and groups have taught me how to make friends and how to have peoples backs. In sports, your team is like your family. You have to protect them, help them, and motivate them. I have learned from past experience on basketball teams that you have to be a team player and give your teammates the ball to give them opportunities to score. Being on teams taught me how to believe in others.
