Who is Ares?

Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera. He is one of the twelve Olympians. He is the God of war. He often represents the physical or the violent in Greek literature.

He has the symbols of the chariot, dog, boar, spear, helmet and vulture. All of these things represent violence, war and violent creatures.

Ares has the control over feelings and emotions of war (such as hate). He can control on what they feel like out in the battlefield.

He is used in our world today by having statues of him in art museums. He is also represented in our household pets such as dogs because that is a symbol of Ares.

When the war between the Trojans and the Olympians began, Ares promised his mother Hera that he would side with the Olympians. However, Aphrodite convinced him to side with the Trojans. When doing this Ares broke his promise with Hera. For his actions, during the war he got wounded by a mortal named Diomedes with the aid of Athena.

After the death of Akhilleus

his son Neoptolemos took control

as the Greek warrior. Ares descended from Heaven and drove the Trojans into battle against the Greeks. Ares was surprised that a mortal like Neoptolemos was so brave. The Trojans and Greeks fought. There was blood and dead bodies everywhere. The Trojans trusted in Ares and the Greeks trusted Neoptolemos. When Zeus daunted them Ares was afraid and drew back his solders giving victory to Neoptolemos.
