Paper was invented in 104AD by Cai Lun. He took bamboo fibers, and inner bark of a mulberry tree and mixed it with water, and smashed them together with wooden instruments. Then he poured the mixture onto a flat piece of woven cloth and let water flow through, where only fibers remained on the cloth. Lun realized he had crafted a quality wrting surface that was simple to make and was lightweight.
