Ideology

Main Events

The First Mexican Republic came just after the First Mexican Empire collapsed, the control of the nation was taken by Liberal politicians such as Vicente Guerrero and Guadalupe Victoria, however, the first governments were very unstable and they were betrayed and overthrown by former allies, such as Antonio López de Santa Anna, who although he presented himself as a Liberal, he was a fiery conservative

1-. The overthrow of the Monarchy: this event consolidated Mexico as a Republican nation, the creation of a Constitution and the first "elections" (presidents were chosen arbitrarily by a reduced group of people)

2-. Santa Anna's rise to power: when Santa Anna rose to power, he immediately started shaping Mexico to his point of view, creating an army (although it was a very disorganized and unprofessional army) introducing mandatory education for every mexican younger than 15 (this one failed miserably) and letting american and european colonizers settle in the northern unpopulated part of Mexico, however, Santa Anna got bored very quickly and passed the power to his Vice-President, still, the existence of Santa Anna as a popular figure in the mexican society, shaped the following years of Mexican polítics and foreign policy.

3-. The failed Spanish Invasion of 1829 that consolidated Mexico as an independent nation

4-. The fall of the federal republic when Santa Anna introduced the Seven Laws constitution, a centralist constitution that angered the northern and southern states of mexico, who decided to separate creative new Republic such as the republic of Texas and the Republic of Yucatán
