History

On 24 February 1918 Estonia

declared its independence. From 1944-1991 Estonia was under the Soviet occupation.

On 20 August 1991 we regained peacefully our independence and it was called the Singing Revloution.

We joined European Union and NATO in 2004, use euros from 2011.

Vändra library`s new building is from 2010.

It consists of a fireplace room, a museum room, a gallery for the art class and 7 computers with internet access.

Various events like concerts, art exhibitions and historical displays take place there.

Open in the afternoons for playing billiard,

table footall, table tennis, computer, and xbox. Possible to organize events, celebrate birthdays,

have lectures, and theme evenings.

Vändra music school was founded in 1962.

There have been 403 music school graduates during 50 years of activity. Today there are 94 students and 13 teachers.

Students study to play the piano, the guitar, the violin and the drums, the accordion, the clarinet, the saxophone, the flute and the recorder.

Vändra was first mentioned in

historical documents in

1515 and became a separate

parish in 1657.

The working farm museum at Kurgia near Vändra is dedicated to the 19 century national movement leader C. R. Jakobson. The museum is special due to an active cattle-breeding and land cultivation.

Our stadium was renovated in 2012. Next to the stadium there is a basketball, a volleyball and tennis courts, a skate park, a gym, and a 1 km jogging track for skiers, walkers and roller bladders.
