SIEMENS IN THE SUSTAINABLE CITY

Oksana Udovyk

ENERGY

Supporting new sustainability ideas, thinking wider and wiser.

Not just making the city “smarter” – but making it a better place to live

EFFICIENT BUILDINGS

Not only energy efficient buildings – but collective living supported by SIEMENS technologies.

For example collective housing systems, time banking, sharing work place – HUB. Here Siemens technology could also enable a simple exchange things inside the community. For example - developing specific “smart trash” bins that would transfer goods around the city to the point of destination.

Now I will explain how and why in details

Siemens Touchpanels - practical example

• Lack of resources

• Pollution

• And population growth

WATER AND WASTEWATER

Instead of investing in the treatment technologies, there is possibility to invest in solving problem at the roots. For example – eco-sanitation (separate pee and poo to be used further as fertilizers). Siemens could develop new toilets, transport and separation systems.

Alternatively Siemens could work more with developing systems of local water treatment thought urban gardens, green roofs and similar.

use already existing technologies

but in different ways

I see Siemens taking a different role in sustainability - being a frontrunner rather than a follower of the obvious solutions

SOLUTIONS

POWER GREED

Members of community could share energy collected by own solar panels, wind and even by bicycling using SIEMENS smart greed.

Technical solutions

Lifestyle change

Depopulation

SIEMENS could combine all of them!!!

SIEMENS – MAKING THE CITY A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE!!!

SAFETY AND SECURITY

Involve 9 billion people in problems solving and monitoring.

For example establishing help requests boxes or reporting problems boxes at the subway stations/downstairs in the houses and similar; enabling people to report problem and also to come up with the solutions and help.

MOBILITY

Not only low CO2 transport technologies, but also SHARING and BIKING technologies

Cities - an emotional deserts, with ego-centric and growth oriented consuming inhabitants.

Alternative city - connections and community building instead of new roads and high towers, friendship and happiness instead of competition, wellbeing instead of growth and green instead of iron!

Future technologies have to solve these challenges
