Gasifier Efficiency and its Emission

Gasifier System

Take note that:

System efficiency is of course dependent on fuel characteristics, load characteristics and environmental conditions

Performance data of a small gasifier in Sri Lanka

can be very efficient at producing hot gases, hot air, hot water or steam, typically recovering 65-90% of the energy contained in the fuel

Our Solution

Improvement and sustainability

Gasification

Lower efficiencies are generally associated with wetter fuels

First things first!

  • governments should control land allocation and investors should now consider renewable energy resources given the high commodity prices
  • efforts over a prolonged period of time are required to demonstrate and develop improved crops and cultivation methods, conversion systems and infrastructure
  • For this, long running research, development and dissemination programs are essential. This can be achieved best through international collaboration

Also, the efficiency of wood as an energy source varies depending on how it is processed

Identify the Problems:

  • the availability of land and the food-versus-fuel dilemma
  • to improve biomass energy systems to compete with fossil fuels, new concepts for electricity generation based on modern biomass fuels need to be developed

Combustion Efficiency and its Emission

Direct Combustion

an open fire only converts about 5% of the wood’s potential energy

depends primarily on good contact between the oxygen in the air and the biomass fuel

this figure reaches from 36% for traditional wood stoves to about 80% for modern wood pellet stoves

The main products of efficient biomass combustion are carbon dioxide and water vapor

The emitted wood gasses are then superheated and mixed with air or pure oxygen for complete combustion (minimal emission only)

however tars, smoke and alkaline ash particles are also emitted

Dendrothermal Energy

How does it work?
