The Conflict Develops and Progresses

The Conflict develops from the point where Constancias dad tells her that she must take abuela to church. Then the next day Abuela and Constancia go to church and the event at the church happens.

The Conflict

Abuela Invents the Zero

The main conflict of the story is when Abuela gets lost in church. Abuela gets lost and Constancia doesn't help her. Abuela gets lost after communion and Constancia is Selfish to the point where she doesn't help her.

Introduction to the Characters

Constancia-A teenage girl who has only seen her grandma three times. She is very selfish and mean towards family.

Abuela- Constancias grandma. She has had ten kids, one being Constancias mom. Loves Church and is very Catholic

How does the theme develop?

The theme "selfishness" develops from when Constancia doesn't want to take Abuela to mass at ten the next day. Then from there Constancia takes her grandma to mass and won't help Abuela when she gets lost. The reason she won't help her is because she is afraid people will make fun of her.

The Theme of the Story

The theme of "Abuela Invents The Zero" to me is selfishness. I chose selfishness because Constancia only thinks about herself. She deosn't want to be seen with her family because she will be embarassed. She won't even help her lost grandma in church because she doesn't want to be made fun of at school.

How is Theme Shown through Dialogue

The theme is shown through dialogue when Constancia and La Abuela go to Church. You can learn the theme from what is happening at church. This part lets you see how the theme proggresses and develops.
