In March, your writing portfolio will be sent to the SQA to be marked.
Each writing piece is worth 15 marks, making the portfolio worth a total of 30 marks.

You will also complete units that will
give you National 4 English &
National 5 Literacy as a back up.
READING & LISTENING SKILLS
Answer questions on a non-fiction text
(newspaper/magazine articles)
Answer questions after watching/listening to a text (Newsnight, Panorama, Scotland Tonight segment)
You will study one of two Scottish plays:
'Tally's Blood' or 'Sailmaker'.
You will also study texts for critical essay writing such as a novel, poetry, non-fiction writing or film & TV.
WRITING & TALKING SKILLS
Produce both discursive and creative writing.
Deliver a solo talk/participate in group discussion
for the Spoken Language assessment you are
required to complete.
Two mandatory units:
- National 5 English: Analysis & Evaluation
- National 5 English: Creation & Production
The work you complete will also count towards:
- National 5 Literacy
- National 4 Added Value
