Flint, Michigan

  • January 15,2016: The town's water supply, originally from Lake Huron, was switched to Flint River.
  • Flint River is highly corrosive
  • Caused its water to corrode iron water mains.
  • Service lines to most Flint homes were made of lead
  • Water became polluted with lead in addition to the iron, turning it brown.
  • In response, FEMA is providing bottled water, as well as filters, to the citizens of Flint. Approximately 71,200 liters of clean water has been supplied so far.
