The Giver conflict

Elsewhere!

Man vs. self #3

"He had not taken the pills, now, for four weeks. The Stirrings had returned, and he felt a little guilty and embarrassed about the pleasurable dreams that came to him as he slept" (Lowery 130,131). This is man vs. self because the stirrings were dreams in his head.

Man vs. Self # 2

"From the distance, Jonas could hear the thud of cannons. Overwhelmed by pain, he lay there in the fearsome stench for hours, listened to the men and animals die, and learned what warfare meant." Jonas was getting the memory of warfare and he was in pain and was overwhelmed but they where all in his head.

Man vs. Self #1

"Now was the moment when he would have to confess, to say, "No, I don't. I can't." Jonas was just asked If he can see beyond. He knew he could not so he was scared.

Man vs. Society #3

'"Jonas has not been assigned," she informed the crowd, and his heart sank."' (Lowery 60). This is Man vs. Society because they did not assign Jonas a job. This meant that he would not be in the community anymore

Man vs. Society # 2

Man vs. society # 1

"She skipped me, Jonas thought, stunned. Had he heard wrong? No. There was a sudden hush in the crowd, and he knew that the entire community realized that the Chief Elder had moved from Eighteen to Twenty" (Lowery 57). Jonas was at the ceremony of twelves and he was getting ready to go up and the chief elder skipped his number and called twenty. This was huge in the community because people who where not assigned where released.

"'You're hit, Jonas!" Asher yelled from behind the tree."Pow! You're hit again!"Jonas stood alone in the center of the field. Several of the children raised their heads and looked at him uneasily. The attacking armies slowed, emerged from their crouched positions, and watched to see what he was doing"' (Lowery 193). Jonas was getting mad that they were playing a game where people where getting killed. They were playing a game of war. They did not know what pain this had brought to Jonas and people who were not part of the community back when the community was not around.

Man vs. Nature #3

Man vs. Nature # 2

"In the best of conditions, the hill would have been a difficult, demanding ride. But now the rapidly deepening snow obscured the narrow road and made the ride impossible. His front wheel moved forward imperceptibly. He got off and let it drop sideways into the snow. For a moment he thought how easy it would be to drop beside it himself, to let himself and Gabriel slide into the softness of snow, the darkness of night, the warm comfort of sleep" (Lowery 176). This is man vs. nature because the snow made it harder for him to pealed up the hill.

Man vs. Man #3

"Sideways, spinning, the sled hit a bump in the hill and Jonas was jarred loose and thrown violently into the air. He fell with his leg twisted under him, and could hear the crack of bone. His face scraped along jagged edges of ice" (Lowery 108). The reason this is man vs. nature is because the hill was a lot steeper and he hit a bump and he was Jared lose and broke his leg.

"Even I voted for Gabriel's release when we had the meeting this afternoon." Jonas put down his fork and stared at his father. "Re-lease?" he asked. Father nodded. "We certainly gave it our best try, didn't we?'" Jonas plan had to be started earlier than he wanted because he had to bring gabe with him on his journey because his father was going to release it tomorrow morning. If he did not bring him he would have been made that he let his father kill an Innocent baby.

Man vs. Nature # 1

"One night Jonas fell, when the bike jolted to a sudden stop against a rock. He grabbed instinctively for Gabriel; and the newchild, strapped tightly in his seat, was uninjured, only frightened when the bike fell to its side. But Jonas's ankle was twisted, and his knees were scraped and raw, blood seeping through his torn trousers. Painfully he righted himself and the bike, and reassured Gabe." This is man vs. nature because the rock was the thing that sent Jonas of the bike and caused him to hurt himself.

Man vs. Man #2

The four types of conflict

“‘I won't! I won't go home! You can't make me. Jonas Sobbed and shouted and pounded the bed with his fists.'” Jonas had just watched a video of his father releasing a twin. Jonas was mad that his father would kill a human and not feel any emotions.

Man vs. Man #1

The Four types of conflict are Man vs. Man, Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Society, and Man vs. Self. Man vs. Man is when two character in the book have a conflict between each other. Man vs. Nature is when a character has a conflict with the force of nature. Man vs. Society is when one character is face a conflict with the a lot of characters from the book. Man vs. self is when a character has a conflict in his head or themselves

Gabe had just got to there house and lily said "'And he has funny eyes like yours, Jonas'” (Lowery 20). In the community you do not point out what is different about another person. So when lily pointed out Jonas eyes it mad him mad.
