What is air pollution?

  • air supplies us with oxygen which is essential for us to live
  • there are several types of air pollution

Smog

Smog is a type of large-scale outdoor pollution caused by carbon emissions

  • smog
  • acid rain
  • green house effect
  • hole in the ozone layer

One could compare it to dense fog

It is composed of different chemicals released into the air by cars , factories and other pollutants

  • release of particles and noxious gases into the air

Outdoor air pollution

Bigger cities are often home to these types of activities

Greenhouse effect

Acid rains

Built-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere

A pollutant combined with rain drops to the ground

aCarbon dioxide is formed through burning of fuels and noxious gases

Hole in the Ozone layer

aggressive ingredients contained in our every day supplies attack the atmosphere, causing holes in the ozone layer

serious effects on the environment - damage to trees, crops and our bodies

the ozone layer is supposed to protect us from damaging UV rays

Carbon dioxide traps sun rays and reverts them back to earth which causes overall temperature to increase

without it we're exposed to dangerous sun rays that may cause skin and other types of cancer

Indoor Air Pollution

It's even more dangerous because in enclosed environments, air circulation is quite restricted

There are many sources of indoor air pollution:

tobacco, cooking and heating appliances, vapours

Effects on health

air pollution may have both short-term and long term effects on our body

headache

allergies

acute cough

different forms of cancer

skin problems
