Amendment XVII
- Congressional pay increases cannot take effect until after the next congressional elections
- Prevents congress from raising its pay and then not being held accountable.
Amendment XVI
- Voting age reduced from 21 to 18
- Response to 18-year-old soldiers serving in Vietnam
Amendment XXV
- Sets up the Presidential Line of Succession
- Vice President Replaces the President
- President then nominates a new VP
- President can also be relieved temporarily by VP
Amendment XIV
- No one may be denied the right to vote in any federal election for the reason of not paying any poll tax or other tax.
Amendment XXIII
- Added Presidential Elector for the District of Columbia
- DC was paying taxes but had no say in the presidency.
- Total number of electors is the same as the number of Electors for the least populous state: 3
Amendment XXII
- Set the presidential term limit at 2.
- If the Vice President succeeds the president in the last half of that term, then the maximum term limit is 10 Years minus 1 Day
Amendment XX
- Changes the start date for the president to January 20th after the elections.
- We call this the Lame Duck Amendment
- Because information and people could travel further and faster, the amount of time between being elected and starting the job could be shortened.
Amendment XXI
- Repealed the 18th amendment
- Officially ending Prohibition
Amendment XVIII
- Women’s Suffrage
- One cannot be denied the right to vote based on sex
- Came because of the increases female importance to WWI
