- The citizens were complaining that President Bashar al-Assad had been in power for too long
- President Bashar al-Assad started using his forces against the citizens
- President Barack Obama calls Assad to resign
- On November 29, 2012 the Syrian internet and phone service was shut off
- The government didn't take responsibility for this and insisted it was because of blackout on fiber optic lines near Damascus
- Not a lot happened this year, but the war still went on
- The Syrian War against the rebels and the government had a week-long break from the war
- The people of Syria hoped that this would put a stop to the war
- This ceasefire did not mean that ISIS and the other terrorist groups also took a break; they kept on bombing villages and killing people

- Russia begins launching air strikes in Syria in support of Assad’s forces
- 17 nations meet in Vienna adopt a timeline for a transition plan in Syria, which is adopted by the UN Security Council as Resolution 2254
