• It is unclear exactly why people enjoy these types of stories.
• Some sociologists claim that people like to read about the tragedies of other people to show that their lives aren’t so bad. It could be worse.
• Others think that people like the excitement of crime and tragedy and it breaks up their ordinary and dull routine of daily life.
Homework: Look up and bring in a crime or disaster newspaper article. You may find one online or in the physical paper.
Answer: Why were you interested in this article? Do you think people like these types of stories because they break up the routine of the day? Or is it because people want to see that their lives aren't so bad? Is it both?
