The Real Mary Warren continued

When she was being questioned, she gave the congregation a statement that the took as her confessing that the girls were lying about being bewitched. Many of the afflicted girl accused the Proctors of witchcraft, and she willingly testified against them (Salem Witch Trials). She stated that they made her sign and touch the book of the devil. On April 18th, Ezekiel Cheever and John Putnam Jr accused Mary Warren, along with Bridget Bishop, Giles Corey and Abigail Hobbs of bewitching the afflicted girls (Salem Witch Trials). Mary Warren was a 17 year old girl who was a servant to the Proctors. She was one of the girls who danced in the woods with Abigail. She knew about Abigail's attempt to frame Goody Proctor of being a witch, but was unable to tell the truth in court, and ends up accusing John Proctor of witch craft.

Mary Warren was a twenty something year old during the time of the Salem Witch Trials. She began having fits in March of 1692 (History of Massachusetts). John Proctor dismissed it as nonsense and threatened to beat Warren if she didn’t behave. On April 2nd her fits stopped, and she put up a note on the local meetinghouse asking for prayers of thanks for the stopping of her fits (History of Massachusetts).

Continued...again

Warren was released from prison in June of 1692 (Salem Witch Trials). After confessing, Warren began aggressively accusing others of witchcraft and testified as a witness in numerous cases. Of the people she testified against, eight were hanged, one was tortured to death, one died in jail and the rest were either found not guilty, pardoned or escaped (History of Massachusetts). It is not known what happened to Mary Warren after the Salem Witch Trials ended. Mary Warren never married, and died a single woman (Salem Witch Trials).
