Australia in 100 Years

by Julia de Souza, Karen Ohale, Matilda Sansom and Jorja Boxall

Population Increase

Technology

Australia's population currently reaches approximately 23 million people, according to the Bureau of Statistics, but chances are that the number will increase in the very near future, mostly due to overseas migration and increased fertility rates. When it comes to migration, most of the increase is due to temporary migration, such as visa workers, working holiday makers and international students. This is just the tip of the ice berg...

The major thing that will change is technology. We are witnessing the development of technology everyday. Where it will be in the next century is almost

unimaginable. Australians may be living amongst energy saving hovering cars, light sabers or even appliances controlled by thought.

Better Health

Whatever it is Australians come up with, it can benefit everyday living for almost everybody. Especially in education. With kids growing up in a digital world, learning with new advances technology can improve learning and set them up for their future in an even more modern world.

With a total fertility rate of 3 babies per woman, 26% of people will be under 15 years old in the year 2056. The high rate would also increase population growth and lead to Australia having around 49 million people in 2056.

Today, there are many chronic diseases that are incurable. Doctors of all sorts are researching for cures that are capable of saving millions of lives. Together with the technology of the future, cures are within reach.

Over a period of 100 years, large amounts of money will be raised. This money will go towards research and diseases such as cancer, Polio, Lupus, Alzheimer's, HIV/AIDS and many others can be finally eliminated.

Obviously, more people means less jobs and houses. It's very likely in the future that more Australians will be unemployed and homeless. With the population increasing by 1 million every 3 years, this situation is inevitable.

The population of Australia is continuously increasing meaning the number of houses are decreasing.

This means of course, building new houses. But where? It will come to a stage where we will need to make room by eliminating some of the bush and forests in Australia.

This can cause politics to go mental, but more importantly, we are destroying our environment. We can only hope that a solution will arrive in the future.

Leaders

One way we can try to avoid this is to consider is building more homes now and start new companies as well as coming up with new occupational ideas. It won't make the problem disappear completely, but it will at least make it easier to handle.

There is a chance that Australia will no longer be part of the Commonwealth in 100 years and change to a Republic. Having a leader who lives in Australia could make a big difference in everyone's lives

The Queen is almost at the end of her reign so she will most certainly not be in charge in 100 years. In fact, our leader may not have been born yet. Dodgy royals may be the reason for Australia to ditch the Commonwealth and become a republic.

But even so, we do not know who will lead us in 100 years, whether we become a republic or not; simply because they do not exist yet. One thing is for certain though. Australia will be wiser than it is today. With 100 years more experience, the people will be able to pick better leaders and overall make Australia a better country.

Obesity

Technology will be more advanced and will allow things to be done automatically. This will lead the future generation to do less things themselves which might lead to obesity. However, there may be an invetion that can prevent this in the future. In a way, this is cheating life. They are living on machines and medicine instead of natural resources

Indigenous People

The indigenous people of Australia are bound to have a better life in 100 years' time. Returning most of their land back will definitely be a big step for Australia.

Looking back 100 years in the past, Australia would have been a very different place to what it is today. 100 years in the future, Australia will develop and like before, will be a different place. With new high tech equipment and better lifestyles, Australia will seem like a new world.

However, the amount of people with indigenous heritage will decrease and their culture may struggle to stick around. It will not be surprising to have an indigenous-less Australia in the future.
