The James J. Crowley Training Facility is located just outside Washington D.C. in Beltsville Maryland.

JOB SPECIFICATION

  • In 1894 the Secret Service received a second responsibility, the protection of the President by Chief William Hazen calling them White House Police.
  • In 1901 William McKinley was assassinated.
  • In 1963 Kennedy’s detail was asked to stand down and the President was assassinated.

  • An official badge was designed in 1875 and all agents could turn in their old ones for a five dollar credit.
  • The new badge was a silver star and cost the agents twenty five dollars that would be returned upon their retirement from the agency.

The Secret Service has two primary missions,

investigation of financial crimes and physical

protection of designated protectees.

Each point of the Secret Service star represents one of the agency’s five core values: justice, duty, courage, honesty and loyalty. These values, and the Secret Service adage “Worthy of Trust and Confidence,” resonate with each man and woman who has sworn the oath to uphold them. 

The Silver star was passed out in 1875, the new gold star appeared in 1991.
