Optimistic Tone
This poem encourages young people to make a choice. They can be gloomy about life or they can be proud and hopeful. The choice is theirs.
In reverse the poem is a lot more positive and is almost like a declaration of hope
Pessimistic Tone
"Our generation will be known for nothing."
When the poem is read forwards, it has a very negative view on life. It paints a gloomy picture of modern society where people are obsessed with careers and money.
