Emotion: escalating levels of fright must be present.

3. Who is the real ghost in the Benetto family?

When the character in the story becomes emotional (scared, sad, worried), the reader should be able to identify with these emotions and begin to feel the same way.

5. How do the ghosts in this novel change the course of the main character's life? Is this a good change?

Atmosphere: the reader must be gradually removed from natural surroundings and brought into this supernatural world.
