The Great Gatsby Timeline

  • The aftermath of the car accident is in place.
  • The flashback of the war takes place when Daisy was dating someone else. When Gatsby came back from the war, Daisy and Tom on wedding trip.
  • Gatsby wants ONE swim in the pool before gardener drains it.
  • Wilson shows up, shoots Gatsby and then himself.

Chapter 7

Chapter 4

  • Tom, Daisy, Gatsby, Jordan and Nick all decide to head to town.
  • Tom, Nick, and Jordan in Gatsby's "Circus Car" and Gatsby & Daisy in Tom's blue car.
  • An argument about who loves Daisy the most happens at a hotel in town.
  • Daisy hits Myrtle in the car and kills her on the way home with Gatsby. Gatsby takes the blame for it.

  • Some young lady gossips saying that Gatsby is a bootlegger.
  • Nick is invited to lunch with the very own Jay Gatsby himself.
  • Nick meets Gatsby's friend named Mr. Wolfsheim and learns a bit about Gatsby's past from Wolfsheim.

Chapter 3

  • The first party at Gatsby's house begins in this chapter.
  • Jordan and Nick spend time together during the party.
  • Nick formally meets Gatsby for the first time at Gatsby's party with Jordan.

  • Nick invites Daisy to tea at his house so she and Gatsby can meet again for the first time in a while.
  • Gatsby falls in love with Daisy again, like he did in the past.
  • Gatsby gives Daisy a tour of his house, more like mansion, and she was in love with it.
  • Nick Carraway is introduced to the readers, an aspiring bondsman who moved to East Egg.
  • Nick has dinner at cousin Daisy and her husband Tom's house.
  • Jordan is introduced into the story and she and Nick hit it off.
  • Nick see Gatsby at the end of the chapter staring at the green light at the end of Daisy'd dock .
  • 2 years have past and everyone has grown apart.
  • Gatsby's funeral happened in this chapter and no one went. His father, Nick, Owl Eyes, and a few servants were the only ones that went.
  • Author talks about how everyone's dreams were unfulfilled in the story. Is this the American Dream?

Chapter 2

  • Nick meets Tom's mistress, Myrtle, for the first time at her husband George's repair garage.
  • Nick goes to a "party" with Myrtle and Tom, has some drinks.
  • Tom breaks Myrtle's nose for repeatedly saying Daisy's name.

Chapter 6

  • We learn about Gatsby's past with Dan Cody and his real name was James Gatz.
  • Gatsby has another party and Tom shows up with Daisy. There is some tension in the air between the two men.
  • After the party, Gatsby worries that Daisy didn't have a good time at his party but Nick reassures him that she may come again.
