Description

Sahara Desert Biome

  • Located in North Africa at 24.7441* N and 8.1032* E

Project By:Madison Gewinner & Gabi Rock

This dry, arid region holds a home to many species of plants and animals.

Animals

Similar to Plants, animals also adapt to the desert environment and develop qualities to assist in survival through the desert.

Interesting Facts

Sidewinder

Jerboa

This snake is able to travel through the sand without slipping by moving in a sideways motion. It helps the sidewinder to efficiently travel throughout sandy areas of the desert.

Drinking water is not mandatory for Jerboas to survive. This quality allows this mammal to avoid searching for water often.

Addax Antelope

Fennec Fox

Addax Antelope have flat feet that assist them in traveling across the vast desert.

This mammal is able to release body heat to keep itself cool during hot, arid weather.

  • The Sahara Desert is the Third Largest Desert. However, as most people would think it is the world's largest, it is actually the world's largest hot desert.
  • The desert spans 3.6 MILLION square miles
  • 3 men traveled 4,300 miles across the Sahara Desert over a time span of 111 days.
