The Maragtas is a work by Pedro Alcantara Monteclaro titled (in English translation) History of Panay from the first inhabitants and the Bornean immigrants, from which they descended, to the arrival of the Spaniards.

The work is in mixed Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a languages in Iloilo in 1907. It is an original work based on written and oral sources available to the author.

The word "Maragtas" itself was unknown until it was used as the title of the book and was merely intended to mean "history"

The land was then named Malandog.

And until the last moment of his life, he did not know that the Alayon he loved was his wife Kapinangan that hurt him before.

Maragtas

"When the HEART LOVES someone so deeply, crazily and divinely, it cannot love anyone else in the same way anymore. It will stay faithful to the beautiful special soul FOREVER....."

"Be good to others, and they will be good to you as well."

THE END!

In order to give her a lesson, Datu Sumakwel exiled his wife in the middle of the sea, but the one he commanded has a soft heart so he just left Kapinangan on a far place.

She was very hurt and thought that it is better to see her husband die than Gurung-gurung. She broke the arms and legs of Gurung-gurung and wrap him with the bedding so her husband won't notice. Then Datu Sumakwel came acting he just arrived even though he was the one who shot Gurung-gurung through his arrow while hiding in their roof.

One day, when Datu Sumakwel is traveling, he came to a place where Kapinangan is. He met a woman named Alayon and they liked each other after a couple of days he stayed there. Sumakwel tried to forget his feelings for Alayon because he doesn't want to get hurt anymore. But Sumakwel din't leave Alayon and then they got married.

Datu Sumakwel noticed the changes of his wife when he got back. To verify the rumors, he planned to leave them and told Kapinangan to prepare his things for travel.

Kapinangan doesn't know that it was just a trick. The day after he leave, Kapinangan asked Gurung-gurung to come to their house to serve her, but at their home, she was lying on her bed waiting for Gurung-gurung. But her intention was not fulfilled because when he came, he has a shot on his back which caused him to die.

After many years of living in Malandog, He thought of going to the mountain where their god Bulalakaw is located. He left his things in fishing, his house and his wife Kapinangan to Gurung-gurung that he trusted so much.

He was not aware that Kapinangan likes Gurung-gurung.

That were some of the culture of the foreigners who arrived in Panay. But there was an incident came in the life of Datu Sumakwel that caused him sorrow and sadness.

Their way of marriage and burying the dead is different from the aetas. Before a woman accepts the man, he should throw an arrow around the woman's house and it will be removed if the woman likes him.

The priest will give them wine and blesses them.

Before burying the dead, they will put gold in its mouth because they believe that the body will not decay.

After 6 days, the dead is put into a coffin with different kinds of foods and if he was rich, a maid will also be put in there to guard him.

Datu Sumakwel is smart and austere. Anyone who commit a sin will be punished, the hands of a thief will be cut, and the lazy will be sold.

Because of the good communication between the 10 datus and Datu Marikudo, they agreed that the first land stepped by them will be theirs in exchange of a gold salakot and gold batya that weighs 50 bas-ing.

The aetas gave them food and because of their nice way of treating them, the datus gave them colorful necklaces and things for war in return.

Datu Puti left the land knowing that his companions will be safe there. He returned to Borneo thinking that he can hold the tyranny of Datu Makatunaw.

Datu Dumangsil and Datu Balensuela also left and went to Luzon.

Only 7 Datu left in Panay and Datu Sumakwel act as their leader.
