We also thinks it adds more to the story being able to compare characters to people in real life.
Obvious differences include the Marx is a human and old major is a pig but another difference is old major is respected and while Marx was well known he was treated like a fool. In Marx's time everyone thought he was nuts going about trying to make equality for all.

Did George Do Marx Justice?
Both Karl Marx and Old Major believed their people were being mistreated. They both wanted equality and fairness for everyone one of their people. However, both died before seeing the change.
Overall we think that there were mostly similarities between Marx and Old Major and what they started for there people. With them both having many things in common like both of them starting a brand new idea and dying before they could see it happen they are definitely more similar.
Animalism vs. Communism
Our group thinks that George Orwell did a great job of representing Karl Marx with Old Major since he gave so many similarities between the two of them.
Both had a good idea of equality for everyone and everybody works for the good of the farm\country but both also failed thanks to the power hungry people that ran them. In Marx's time it was Stalin that took over and animal farm had Napoleon.
