The mystery of the Trinity, including God the Father God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, is the basis of the Catholic Church's teachings. The understanding of the Trinity is part of everything Catholics do, believe, pray and teach. We can never fully understand the mystery of the Trinity unless God reveals it to us.
The Catholic Church is made of sacramental people. Sacramental belief is fundamental to what Catholics are and do. The Church celebrates seven sacraments, each celebrating God's love and inviting us into his presence. These sacraments help us fulfill a healthy relationship with Christ and our fellow Catholic community.
Scripture, found in the Bible, is the Word of God. Everything in the Bible has been written through the guidance of God. The Bible is important to Catholics because it is God's word to us. The Church finds nourishment and strength in the Bible and welcomes it as the Word of God.
The Church lives out the Trinitarian belief through one of our main symbols, the sign of the cross. Here we remind ourselves of the root of our faith, the Holy Trinity. We also act upon the Trinitarian belief by celebrating the Eucharist. We remember Jesus' sacrifice for God the Father (and us) with help of the Holy Spirit.
The Catholic Church lives out the characteristic of being biblically-based by studying and using the Scripture. In the Catholic Masses, the three readings and the Psalm shared with the people of Christ are taken from the Bible. We also say the Our Father, which is written in the Bible for us. We not only use the Bible in Mass, but we use it for prayers.
Catholics display of being sacramental people is also shown through sacramentals, other signs of God's love. These sacramentals are given to us by the Church, where the 7 sacraments are given to us by God. Some examples of sacramentals are holy water, crucifixes, the paschal candle, ashes and rosaries.
