After WWII, male and female gender identities and roles were shaped heavily by consumerism in Canada. Those men that came back from WWII would start a new life and take up roles within the family, that society had created for them. Women's roles would also change in that they would have to deviate from their former roles. This idea of what male and female roles should look like within society, is currently reinforced through modern day advertising.
