The basic trends of Antiquity and Classical Republicanism is acting for the common good. for example letting the common people have a voice but also having checks on the peoples power. Classical Republicanism placed the needs of people as a community above individual liberty and self determination. Antiquity and Classical Republicanism was for the common good, that is doing what was best for the society as a whole.
The Framers thought that the Roman Republic did the best job at promoting the common good. Common good is doing what is best for the society as a whole. This was important to the framers because they wanted what was best for the American society.
They believed that civic virtue must be learned. This included instruction in civic religion, the symbols, rituals, and values of the society. They also required children to develop proper habits including generosity, self control, respect, fairness, and courage. Young people also needed to learn the importance in political debate and military service.

Citizens are expected to set aside personal interests to promote the common good. They also are expected to be well informed and engaged in community affairs. From their perspective citizenship should emphasize duties, not rights.

Good government is only possible in small communities because in such communities people are able to know and care for each other and to discern the common good. Member of a political community must be fundamentally alike too.
