Motivation

Motivation is very important with me, I will go to the end of the earth for anyone that shows the motivation to learn. I will provide that motivation by getting to know all of my students and tring to add something that I know will interest the each of them at some point.

Presenting new information

A combination in the classroom

I would love to be able to use both UDL techniques in a differentiated classroom. Both of them are very close in in the way things are done. I would use many of the guidelines as outlined in Puckett, 2013 to ensure that I am able to break down the barriers and ensure that I am doing as much good as I think by using different presentation and assessment methods.

Presenting new information will be done after giving thought to exactly who I have in my class, their readiness levels, and any learning disabilities or gifted students. I will always have more than one way to to present to students like lecturing for part and watching a video or examining a song for the rest of the lecture.

Demonstration of prior back knowledge

Getting to know students is important in every classroom. I will have each student create a presentation using any media they want to let me and the class know how they are and where they come from.

Differences

Similarities

  • Both have the students best interests at heart.
  • Both utilize different approaches within the same lesson to ensure each student understands.
  • Both do not need the use of high tech devices to be successful.
  • UDL is a framework that outlines how to break down barriers (Puckett 2013), where differentiation is a way of teaching.
  • UDL is "preplanning instead of waiting to find out who you have and then going to take care of their needs"(Noonoo, 2014'), Differentiation is getting to know your students and then plan for their success.
