Apprenticeships

How much does an Apprentice earn and what are the benefits?

The National Apprenticeship wage is

currently £3.40 p/h.

Do I need to Enrol?

You receive a wage whilst studying your chosen choice of qualification.

No! Not for the apprenticeship route, once you have secured a job we will visit you at work to complete the 'sign-up paperwork.' This is apprenticeship enrolment.

What is an Apprenticeship?

Know your rights as an apprentice...

If you are unsuccessful securing an apprenticeship you will need to enrol for a full time course.

Don't panic, you can enrol up to

mid-September!

You will receive a minimum of 4 weeks holiday per year

Speak to Kirsty if you need an interview for full time!

As an apprentice you will be doing a real job in a real workplace – and getting paid for it!

You will have responsibilities to your employer and your colleagues and you’ll be working as part of a team.

Excellent chance of securing employment once qualified

Good luck and hopefully we will see you in September!

Gaining first hand experiences and learning many life skills

Good network of support from tutors and training advisors

You will attend college once a week and be expected to complete

work at home and work towards up-skilling maths and English.

Meet new friends and work alongside highly qualified staff

You will be gaining valuable knowledge and experience to help you achieve your chosen qualification.

While the main focus of working as an apprentice is to train, gain experience and a qualification, you are also an employee and entitled to certain rights.

Just because you are young or may not have had much work experience does not mean your employer can treat you any differently and this is why college link regularly with you

throughout your training.

It is important to know what your rights are so that you know you are not being made to work too many hours, too little holidays, being asked to carry out tasks that you shouldn't without the correct training etc. Check the details of your contract and don’t feel forced to work too many hours.

How do I secure an Apprenticeship?

Please keep Kirsty updated on your progress with interviews, trials and job offers.
