Should We Clone Humans?

Is it Even Possible?

Cloning Animals

Cloning Tissue

Cloning isn't brand new science. The first animal cloning was a tadpole in 1952, later on in 1996 we successfully cloned the first mammal, Dolly the sheep. Science then scientists have cloned other animals including mice, cows, and goats.

Therapeutic cloning is the cloning of embryonic stem cells. The goal is to clone tissue to replace damaged tissue, rather than cloning a whole being. We had a huge breakthrough in 2014 when scientists successfully cloned adult stem cells.

Cloning Humans

Though it would be possible there is no record to date of a full human cloning. the closest we have gotten to human cloning is the monkey clone we made in 1997. Scientists have also cloned embryos from skin cells of adults and infants, though they have not been allowed to develop.

Different Opinions

My Opinion

The Religious Opinion

Finally, my opinion. I am against cloning however I am not against all of it, I think therapeutic cloning is a very useful discovery and I am ok with its use and development. However i am not ok with completely cloning humans.

The Catholic view on cloning is very negative, we believe that though we have the technology to do it doesn't mean we should do it. God created us uniquely and cloning takes that independence away.

Scientific Opinions

Though we may think all scientists want to do is make discoveries and move to the future, there are huge debates between scientists on whether or no we should clone humans. In 2002 a group of scientists proposed that we ban reproductive cloning (cloning full humans). No matter what role we play in cloning we all have different opinions on it.

Why We Should, Why We Shouldn't.

In Between

Why We Shouldn't

there may be some people that are definitely against cloning humans and there may be some people that don't have a problem with it but is there in between? In my opinion there is. Therapeutic cloning may become very helpful in the medical field and I am not against it however I am against recreating an individual especially with a 99% chance the child wont survive.

Even though we are capable of human cloning there are many reasons ethically that will prevent us from actually ever doing it. one of the main reasons is that cloning has a very high failing rate, only about 1 in 100 actually succeed. many animals are born with abnormally large organs and usually end up needing to be euthanized.

Why We Should

There are few reasons that we should begin cloning humans. The main reason is discovery and science, through the process of cloning we would learn much more. But is it worth all the failures?
