How Bismuth is Made?

Facts About Bismuth!

Rocks and mineral prezitation

Medications, cosmetics, paint, and bullets made of bismuth would currently be impossible to recycle due to technology limitations.

Almost 9,000 tons of bismuth are extracted and produced annually

Due to the rate of decay of another isotope of bismuth, Bi-213, the substance has been researched in applications to treat leukemia patients.

One of bismuth's isotopes, Bi-209, was once believed to be the heaviest stable isotope in existence, but it was proven in 2003 that this isotope actually does decay.

Bismuth is one of only a few elements whose liquid state has a higher density than its solid state.

Bismuth was among the first group of ten metals to be discovered and classified.

Bismuth crystals grow in an odd, staircase-shaped formation due to a greater growth rate on its outside edges than on the inside.

The Pros and Cons of Bismuth

This medication is used to treat occasional upset stomach, heartburn, and nausea. It is also used to treat diarrhea and help prevent travelers' diarrhea. It works by helping to slow the growth of bacteria that might be causing the diarrhea.Bismuth subsalicylate is a salicylate. Salicylates can cause serious bleeding problems when used alone in patients with ulcers.

Bismuth was discovered by an unknown alchemist around 1400 AD. Later that century it was alloyed with lead to make cast type for printers and decorated caskets were being crafted in the metal. Bismuth was often confused with lead; it was likewise a heavy metal and melted at a relatively low temperature making it easy to work. Georgius Agricola in the early 1500s speculated that it was a distinctly different metal, as did Caspar Neuman in the early 1700s, but proof that it was so finally came in 1753 thanks to the work of Claude-François Geoffre.Bismuth was used as an alloying metal in the bronze of the Incas of South America around 1500 AD. Bismuth was not mined as ore but appears to have occurred as the native metal.

Where does bismuth come from?

Bismuths Uses?

How does bismuth form?

Bismuth mainly comes from china but also comes from Peru,Japan,Mexico, and Canada

Bismuth is usually mixed with other metals such as lead ,tin ,iron ,and cadimium to form low melting alloys.Bismuth is used to create atomic fire sprinklers systems fire detection systems and electrical fuses

Bismuth is a chemical element with symbol Bi and atomic number 83. Bismuth, a pentavalent post-transition metal, chemically resembles arsenic and antimony. Elemental bismuth may occur naturally, although its sulfide and oxide form important commercial ores. The free element is 86% as dense as lead.
