Montezuma II

"1502-1520

The Climb to the Top

Montezuma II probably one of the greatest known names was the 9th ruler of the Aztecs. Montezuma II was very well known by the Aztecs for his war efforts. In 1517 Montezuma II saw a comet and it is said that was a signal telling Montezuma II that the end was near.

"1325-1502

Building the city of Tenochtitlan wasn't an easy task. The Aztecs had to have there most advanced engineers to build the crossways and the temples. Despite the struggles the Aztecs went on to build what was the largest cities in mesoamerica.

Challenges of The Aztecs

The Growing population of the Aztecs brought them more demand for supply's like fresh water. At the time there city was a flouting on water. Transporting things was done on a canoe but that wasn't enough to transport stone and other items to build the city. So what they did was build causeways connecting to the main land. This required adding two rows of logs deep in the lake bed and between them adding earth and stone until it reached a few feet off the water. This allowed the roads to support massive weight and allowed heavier stone to be carried across.

The Fall of The Aztec Empire

1519-1522

The Founding of the Aztecs

"1150-1325

The Aztec civilization was at its top with its leader Montezuma II. In the year 1519 Cortez landed in the Gulf of Mexico. Aztec spies saw the boats arriving but they didn't have a name for them. So the Aztecs described them as mountains that move in the water. When Montezuma and Cortez met it was peaceful but had tension. After the meet Montezuma invited the Europeans to stay a one of his palaces, that would prove to be a mistake. The Europeans kidnapped Montezuma and Cortez would use him as a mouth piece. The Aztecs felt betrayed and pummeled Montezuma with rocks and arrows. Later on his lifeless body was tossed over his palace walls. In 1521 Cortez launched attack on the capital of the Aztec empire Tenochtitlan. The battles took place on the causeway. The Aztecs were hopeless in the battle. Months later Cortez captured the new leader of the Aztecs Cuauthemoc and surrendered. That was the end of the Aztec empire. It is estimated that about 90% of the Aztecs was lost by battle and diseases.

The Rise

The Aztecs stared as a small tribe but slowly made there way to the top. In the year 1325 was the founding of there capital city Tenochtitlan. It wasn't easy to build the city thus the land brought problems. To build the temple they had to add layers off logs to the ground to prevent the temple from sinking or tilting. This Temple was named El Templo Mayor.

"1150"

The Rise of The Aztecs began in 1150 following the fall of the Toltec Empire. The Aztecs began to establish there capital city Tenochtitlan over which the Toltecs established there state Tula.
