CONFLICT

George and Lennie have to go work at a new ranch because of what happened in Weed; in Weed Lennie felt a girl's dress because it was soft, she then screams and accuses Lennie of rape so Lennie panics and won't let go. So George and Lennie have to hide in an irrigation ditch all day so Lennie won't end up in jail for the rest of his life. This is very similar to what happens later in the book. Lennie likes to pet soft things, and usually hides mice from George. Lennie accidentally kills the mice because he doesn't realize his strength. This isn't the only problem Lennie causes, there are bigger ones. To find out what Lennie causes, read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.

CONNECTION:

In Of Mice and Men and To Kill A Mockingbird, women aren't treated the same way as men are treated. If a woman was to accuse a man of anything like what happened to Lennie in Weed and to Tom Robinson, the man would have to face consequences. Lennie escapes the consequences but faces others later. This is very similar to Tom's trial in To Kill A Mockingbird, he is found guilty but isn't sentenced to death imidiately.
