2 c. Crisco
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 dry yeast
2 eggs
2 tbsp. mahleb (seed of black celery)
Approximately 2 c. warm water
2 lb. flour
1 c. sesame seeds
2 tbsp. baking powder
Rub dry ingredients with Crisco and egg until you get an even texture. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of the warm water. Add remaining water and mix well until dough is of even consistency. Roll small pieces out. Make circular rounds, or place 3 strips together and braid. Bake at 350 degrees until golden

The Christmas service ends at midnight with the ringing of church bells, then people go home to eat a special Christmas meal known as fata, which consists of bread, rice, garlic and boiled meat.On Christmas morning people in Egypt visit friends and neighbors. They take with them kaik which is a type of shortbread, which they take with them to give to the people they visit.

Egyptian orthodox or Coptic christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on the7th of January but catholic Egyptians celebrate it on the 25th.
