ARTH 4809: Exhibition Presentation
- 'Composition' embodies the interconnection and interdependence of animals and humans in nomatic Inuit culture
- The large fish eating a smaller fish, womans arms morphing into birds, and elks tail in the whales mouth imply a delicate interconnection and interdependence of man and nature
- Composition and colour suggest an optimistic communion of nature and man
Framework: Ecofeminism
About the Artist(s)
- A concept in environmental ethics that draws connections between the patriarchal domination of women and the domination and exploitation of the natural world
- Ecofeminists originally drew attention to ancient icons, including Mother Earth, goddess Isis etc. to validate inherent connection of women and nature, but now avoid this abstract visual connection in favor of statistical and logical arguments
- American male art duo based in Berlin
- Work extensively with state-of-the-art technology, and the notion of "art as information"
- Work is often self-referential, or referential of the art world, and frequently uses irony to expose a post-modern condition.

WOMB
Objectives:
- To choose objects from a wide range of modern and contemporary art practices
- To exhibit objects that contribute to the discussion of ecofeminism alone and in combination
- Embody the essence of ecofeminism through exhibition and curatorial techniques
JO KA KI QI EX XI XU ZA, 2012
- Work is made of carbon nanotubes
- In terms of physics and molecular chemistry, the material has a "high-energy density"
- 'Energy' is also a term used in the art world to describe an effective gestural drawing, thereby making an insular jokes exclusive to the art world
- The material used is also extremely toxic, and can be seen as a form of technological domination threatening the health of women as well as the natural world
About the Artist
- German-born contemporary artist working in a vast range of artistic mediums, including appropriation, sculpture, photography, and curating
- Often exhibits works with collected objects such as scientific drawings, biological models
- Attempts to break down notions of artistic mastery and linear art histories through curation of art and non-art objects
Rosemarie Trockel: Less sauvage than others
About The Artist

- Work deeply rooted in her personal psychology and biography
"Less sauvage than others"
Louise Bourgeois: Maman (1999)
- Painting by Chimpanzee appropriated by Trockel for her solo-exhibition 'A Cosmos' at the New Museum of Contemporary Art
- Pokes fun at the abstract expressionists
- Addresses serious issues of speciesism, authorship, mastery, and patriarchal 'savagery '
- Raises questions about the creative and spiritual relationship between animals and humans
- Work is a ode to her mother, who she says was protective and helpful like a spider
- The sculpture is used to frame the other art works, and symbolizes the qualities of motherly figures, such as nurturing and protection
Mounting
- The exhibition will be held outdoors, under the 'Maman' sculpture
- Each work will be hung in an individual sealed container and wall
- Viewers will be able to approach the exhibition from an direction, and roam freely between the works
Conclusion
It is my hope that 'WOMB' can facilitate conversations between artists, cultures, and generations to inspire positive change in the world.
